Five children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours to 8am on 25 October, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
All five deaths were classified as suspected measles-related fatalities. They bring the combined reported toll to 1,227, comprising 104 laboratory-confirmed deaths and 1,123 suspected deaths.
The same update recorded 1,280 new suspected cases and 76 laboratory-confirmed infections. Cumulative suspected cases stood at 221,164, while confirmed infections reached 23,400.
Since 15 March, 196,703 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospital, of whom 188,674 have recovered, the directorate said.
The classification is important: the combined death toll is not a laboratory-confirmed measles total. Likewise, suspected and confirmed case series should be kept separate rather than added together as if they necessarily describe different people.
