Bangladesh recorded three more dengue deaths and 1,299 hospital admissions in the 24 hours to 8am on Friday, 23 October, according to the Directorate General of Health Services. The latest bulletin brought the reported death toll this year to 371 and the number of hospital admissions to 119,801.

Two of the latest deaths were reported in Chattogram division and one in Mymensingh. Hospitals continued treating 6,023 dengue patients, while 1,296 were discharged during the reporting period. The cumulative number of patients discharged this year reached 113,407.

The admission figures showed continuing demand for care across the country. Dhaka division, excluding its two city corporations, recorded 274 admissions, followed by 219 in Chattogram and 159 in Barishal. Dhaka South City Corporation reported 131 admissions and Dhaka North 116. Khulna recorded 147, Rajshahi 113 and Mymensingh 100, with smaller totals in Rangpur and Sylhet.

The bulletin reports patients admitted to hospitals and reported deaths. Those figures should be read as the burden recorded by the hospital surveillance system; they do not count every dengue infection in the community. Friday’s figures cover a new 24-hour reporting period, rather than a revision of the preceding day’s bulletin.
