A two-day tourism carnival opened in Kuakata on 23 October, with beach football launching a programme of sporting and cultural events beside the sea.

Patuakhali-4 MP ABM Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the football competition near the beach’s Zero Point in the morning. Eight teams were taking part, with four matches scheduled on the opening day. Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation organised the carnival.

Kite flying and a children’s drawing competition were arranged at Lembur Bon in the afternoon. The programme for 24 October includes a beach marathon and a festival of traditional cakes. Tourist police said additional security personnel had been deployed for the gathering.

At a media discussion during the carnival, State Minister for Planning Zonayed Saki said the proposed Bhanga–Barishal four-lane road could receive approval from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council within three months. He also spoke of plans to widen the Barishal–Kuakata road.

Those road proposals remain subject to approval and implementation. Friday’s opening brought visitors, local businesses and officials together as organisers sought to promote Kuakata’s tourism, while the transport discussion highlighted the longer-term issue of access to the destination.
