Three volunteers were killed when a bus and an ambulance collided in Faridpur’s Madhukhali on Friday, 23 October. They were returning to Magura after attending a workshop in Faridpur, according to their organisation and local emergency officials.
The collision occurred in the Arakandi area of the Dhaka–Khulna highway during the afternoon. Police and local accounts said a Dhaka-bound Kingfisher bus collided with the ambulance travelling towards Magura.
Volunteer for Bangladesh’s regional communications secretary, Ibrahim Khalil, said members of its Magura team hired the ambulance when they could not immediately find a bus home. The group had attended a youth programme in Faridpur earlier in the day.
The dead were identified as Rabbi Molla, Nur Mohammad and Oishi Khatun. Madhukhali health official Al-Amin Sarwar told Prothom Alo that six people were brought to the local health complex: three were dead, while three seriously injured people received initial treatment before transfer to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Earlier reports had put the number injured at four.
Karimpur highway police said both vehicles had been seized and preparations were under way to file a case. The accounts did not establish the final cause of the collision.
