A Dhaka court sent former social welfare minister Dipu Moni to jail on 23 October after a two-day remand in a murder case concerning the death of rickshaw-puller Hafizul Shikder during the July 2024 uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan issued the order after investigators produced her in court and sought her continued detention while the investigation proceeds. The order concerns custody and does not determine guilt.
Hafizul was shot in the Badda area of Dhaka on 20 July 2024, according to the case account. His father filed the case on 21 August that year, naming former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and other accused.
Investigators had questioned Dipu Moni under a two-day remand order in connection with the killing. Friday’s hearing followed the completion of that questioning. The allegations against her remain subject to investigation and the court process.
