Trains resumed using the Dhaka-bound track near Laksam in Cumilla around midday on 22 October, about a day after a derailment disrupted the Dhaka–Chattogram rail corridor. Railway officials said services were again running on both tracks after damaged rails were repaired and the stranded carriages removed.
The Karnaphuli commuter train, travelling from Chattogram towards Dhaka, derailed near Naoti on 21 October. The incident closed the Dhaka-bound line, but the opposite track remained available for trains travelling in both directions. Passengers faced disruption while recovery teams worked overnight.
Laksam station master Omar Faruk Bhuiyan confirmed that normal operations had resumed. Several passengers had been injured while leaving the derailed train, though no serious injuries were reported.
Railway authorities formed a four-member committee to investigate the accident. A railway engineer was temporarily suspended over alleged negligence involving repair work at the site and failure to notify the control room. The cause remained under investigation.
