The death toll from the Himchhari drowning incident rose to five on 22 October after rescuers recovered the bodies of the two tourists who remained missing.

The final body, identified as SM Nafisur Rahman Nibir, was found near Bhangar Mor on Kolatali beach at about 7pm, roughly 27 hours after he disappeared. Ramu police chief AK Fazlul Haque said local people spotted the body and alerted beach workers and lifeguards before police recovered it.

Earlier that morning, the body of another missing tourist, Harun, was recovered from the Sagar Nibas area of Himchhari.

The incident began on the afternoon of 21 October near the Himchhari museum. Several visitors were swept away while bathing in strong currents. Three bodies were recovered that day; the discovery of the remaining two ended the search for those missing.

Police said visitors from Dhaka’s Uttara and Chattogram’s Bayezid area had been at the beach in separate groups. Members of one group entered the water to help a companion who was in difficulty and were caught in the current.
