Five people, including a woman and her two children, were killed when a truck collided with a battery-powered three-wheeler in Roumari, Kurigram, on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Another passenger was critically injured and referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Later reporting identified the injured person as an adult woman, correcting early accounts that described an injured child.

The collision occurred near Sayedabad Bazar on the Roumari–Dhaka highway, according to the updated police account. Three victims died at the scene and two children died while being taken to hospital. Roumari Upazila Health Complex’s resident medical officer confirmed five deaths and the referral of one critically injured person.

Police said the truck driver and helper fled. Officers seized the truck and were examining its documents.

Traffic was disrupted for about two and a half hours before returning to normal after 5pm. The cause of the collision remained under investigation; an eyewitness account alleging excessive speed had not been established as a final finding.
