Bangladesh and China have discussed expanded cooperation on technical and vocational education, including new training institutes, smart classrooms and scholarship opportunities, following talks in Tianjin.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon met Chinese Vice Minister of Education Ren Youqun on the sidelines of the World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference. The Bangladesh education ministry said on Friday, 16 October, that the meeting had taken place on Thursday evening and covered nine areas of bilateral cooperation.
The proposed initiatives include upgrading vocational institutes, introducing more technology into classrooms, expanding Chinese-language learning and improving links between colleges and employers. Teacher training and practical skills development were also discussed.
Another report said the ministers considered the possibility of establishing a joint technical and technology university. That remains a proposal rather than an approved construction project or a university already operating.
The discussions form part of Bangladesh’s effort to align technical education with labour-market needs. Implementation arrangements and timetables for the various proposals have not been fully announced.
