From 17 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Police have arrested two people over the killing of Wahiduzzaman Shamim in Satkhira’s Debhata upazila, the officer in charge of the local police station said on Friday, 16 October.

The arrests follow a murder case filed by Shamim’s elder brother, Abdul Jalil Sana, late on Thursday. The complaint names ten people and also accuses unidentified participants. Police said they were trying to identify and arrest others involved.

Shamim was attacked on Tuesday, 13 October, after allegations that he had insulted religion. His family said he was assaulted first at a local treatment centre and again after police took him to hospital. He subsequently died at Satkhira Medical College Hospital.

Debhata Police Station chief HM Shahin said investigators were examining allegations that people had been encouraged to assemble through a Facebook broadcast. Police were collecting video and other digital evidence as part of the inquiry.

The family has called for those responsible to face trial. The allegations used to mobilise the crowd have not been established as fact. The arrests mark a development in the investigation; they do not establish the detainees’ guilt.
