Education minister proposes SSC retests within 15 days

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has proposed prompt retests for SSC candidates failing up to two subjects. Students who fail again could enter vocational education. The remarks set out the government’s intended approach; a detailed examination-board timetable and implementation rules remain to be announced.

From 14 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon has outlined a plan to let Secondary School Certificate candidates who fail up to two subjects retake those examinations within 15 days of their results.

He presented the proposal on 13 October while opening an orientation course for newly recruited education-cadre officers in Bogura. Students who remain unsuccessful could be offered pathways into technical and vocational education.

The minister said the aim was to stop students losing a full academic year after failing an examination. He also called for more attention to pupils who leave education after unsuccessful results.

The remarks follow an earlier suggestion from the prime minister’s adviser, Mahdi Amin, that failed subjects could be retaken within three months. Milon’s shorter proposed interval indicates that the arrangements are still being developed.

The 2026 SSC and equivalent results initially recorded 690,608 unsuccessful candidates, or 37.75% of examinees. Subsequent scrutiny added 4,585 passes.

An operational timetable, eligibility rules and the first examination cycle covered by the new approach will depend on further instructions from the responsible authorities.
