A temporary bus terminal was inaugurated at RAJUK’s Jhilmil Residential Project in Keraniganj on 12 October as authorities prepare to relocate long-distance services serving 19 southern districts.
The terminal is at Chunkutia, outside central Dhaka. RAJUK chairman Md Reazul Islam and senior Dhaka Metropolitan Police traffic officials attended the inauguration, according to BSS.
Authorities expect bus services from the terminal to begin within the next two months. Inauguration of the facility does not mean every affected route has already changed its departure point.
The plan follows a series of government meetings on traffic management. Officials intend to reduce the number of inter-district buses travelling through central Dhaka by shifting operations towards the city’s outskirts.
Coordinating the route changes and terminal arrangements remains part of implementation. The report did not provide a route-by-route transfer timetable or confirm that the proposed reduction in congestion has already been achieved.
