The government plans to establish a police academy and relocate Chattogram Central Jail to Jungle Salimpur, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on 8 October.
The minister outlined the proposals following a meeting at the Secretariat on infrastructure and law enforcement in the Chattogram area.
The academy would be modelled on the Sardah Police Academy, while the proposed jail and related security infrastructure are intended to strengthen the state’s institutional presence.
Jungle Salimpur has been the subject of concern over illegal settlement, land disputes and criminal activity. Officials say the wider programme will combine enforcement and development measures.
The announcement does not mean construction is under way on every proposed facility. Detailed plans, land arrangements, budget approval and implementation timetables will determine whether the projects proceed.
