Chattogram City Corporation says a 2.2-kilometre cycle track along Airport Road is scheduled to open on 9 October. From 9 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Chattogram City Corporation plans to open a dedicated cycle track along Airport Road on 9 October, following final preparations reviewed by Mayor Shahadat Hossain on Thursday.

The 2.2-kilometre route forms part of a wider road-expansion and infrastructure project, including a four-lane road, pedestrian footpaths and landscaped sections.

City officials describe the facility as Bangladesh’s first dedicated cycle track and say it is intended to make cycling safer and encourage less polluting travel.

The announcement comes as large Bangladeshi cities struggle with congestion, road danger and limited protected space for pedestrians and cyclists.

The inauguration remained scheduled at the time of reporting. The longer-term test will be whether the lane is kept free of parked vehicles and obstructions, connects to useful destinations and is maintained safely.
