Mohanagar Express to extend service to Cox’s Bazar

Bangladesh Railway will extend the Mohanagar Express from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar from 26 October. The 16-coach train will provide a direct link for passengers from several eastern districts, although its Kumira stop will be withdrawn.

From 15 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Bangladesh Railway will extend the Mohanagar Express to Cox’s Bazar from October 26, adding another direct service between the capital and the country’s main beach destination.

The train currently runs between Dhaka and Chattogram. Under the revised schedule, the Cox’s Bazar departure will be at 8am, reaching Chattogram at 12:20pm and Dhaka at 6:30pm. The return service will leave Dhaka at 8:30pm and arrive in Cox’s Bazar at 6am after an overnight journey.

The 16-coach train will have 1,366 seats across Shovon Chair, Snigdha, air-conditioned seat and berth classes. The extension creates direct access for travellers from Feni, Cumilla, Brahmanbaria, Narsingdi and several intermediate stations.

Railway officials said the change was part of a plan to increase use of the Dohazari–Cox’s Bazar line. It will raise the number of train pairs serving Cox’s Bazar to five.

The expansion comes with a trade-off: Mohanagar Express will no longer stop at Kumira, requiring local passengers to use other services. Reliability, timetable discipline and onward transport at Cox’s Bazar will determine whether the added capacity produces a materially better journey.
