A low-pressure area formed over the south-eastern Bay of Bengal on 23 October, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department said, raising the prospect of rough seas and rain in coastal districts from 25 October.
Meteorological officials said the system could strengthen into a depression within 24 hours. Satellite information suggested it was more likely to move west-north-west towards India’s Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coasts. Its precise track and intensity remained under observation; a cyclone landfall had not been established.
The department expected mainly dry weather initially. Parts of Chattogram, Khulna and Barishal divisions could receive rain from Sunday, 25 October, with rainfall potentially increasing over the following five days. It advised fishing boats and trawlers to avoid the deep sea as conditions deteriorated.
Separately, the Bangladesh Weather Observation Team urged farmers whose paddy was already ripe to harvest it and move it to safety by 26 October, ahead of possible rain. The group also advised delaying new winter-vegetable planting and seedbeds, and keeping drainage channels clear.
Those crop-specific recommendations came from the weather-monitoring group. The official forecast described a developing low-pressure system whose eventual path and strength were still uncertain.
