The Anti-Corruption Commission has confirmed that former Bangladesh Air Force chief Sheikh Abdul Hannan was arrested in Qatar and said it is supplying information needed for steps to bring him back.

ACC Secretary Saidur Rahman Khan told reporters in Dhaka on 18 October that the commission had received formal information through Interpol’s National Central Bureau in Bangladesh.

Qatari police arrested Hannan on 15 October, according to the commission. The ACC had learnt of the detention informally on 17 October before receiving official confirmation the following day.

The development relates to the commission’s continuing investigation into allegations of assets beyond known income and money laundering. Court measures concerning travel and property had also been reported as part of the case.

The ACC said it was providing the information requested by the relevant authorities so that Hannan could be brought within Bangladesh’s legal process. The reports did not announce a completed return or a date for repatriation.

Hannan led the air force from June 2021 until June 2024. The financial allegations remain matters for investigation and the courts; the announcement of his arrest does not establish guilt.
