From 18 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made unannounced visits to 13 locations in Dhaka on Saturday and gave several public institutions deadlines to improve cleanliness and maintenance.

At Kuwait–Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, he set a seven-day deadline for improving conditions. At the Azimpur government residential quarters, officials were given two weeks to address problems identified during the visit, according to the prime minister’s deputy press secretary.

The inspections covered hospitals, educational institutions and government housing. Rahman spoke to officials about the condition of buildings and their surroundings and examined arrangements for public services. The visits ran from the morning into the early afternoon.

He also discussed dengue prevention with students and young people, urging them to help keep their surroundings clean and remove mosquito-breeding sites. Hospitals were among the main stops as dengue continued to cause deaths and large numbers of admissions.

The deadlines require follow-up by the institutions concerned. The announcements did not establish that the cleaning or maintenance work had already been completed, and the accounts of the inspections did not include results from a subsequent compliance check.
