Six more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours ending at 8am on 13 October, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
All six latest deaths were classified as suspected measles deaths. The combined tally of suspected and confirmed deaths reached 1,170, comprising 1,066 suspected fatalities and 104 confirmed deaths.
During the same reporting period, health authorities recorded 1,074 suspected cases and 139 laboratory-confirmed infections. Cumulative suspected cases reached 207,371, while confirmed infections stood at 22,712.
These classifications describe different levels of diagnostic confirmation. The combined death total should not be presented as 1,170 laboratory-confirmed measles deaths, and suspected and confirmed case figures should not be casually added as if they represent a single verified count.
Since 15 March, hospitals have admitted 184,269 patients with suspected measles, with 176,672 reported as recovered.
The latest bulletin follows the previous day’s report of two additional suspected deaths. It updates the continuing outbreak rather than announcing a separate disease event.
The reported numbers are drawn from the health authorities’ surveillance system and describe the position at the bulletin’s cutoff; later diagnoses and subsequent reporting may alter the picture.
