US backs measles-rubella vaccination for 3.4m Bangladeshi children
The United States is supporting Bangladesh's measles-rubella catch-up vaccination campaign through UNICEF, targeting 3.4 million children aged six to 59 months. US diplomatic representatives visited a Dhaka vaccination site as the outbreak continues. The figure is the campaign's target population, not a count of children already immunised.

The United States is supporting Bangladesh’s national measles-rubella catch-up vaccination programme through UNICEF, with the campaign targeting 3.4 million children aged six to 59 months.
US Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Eric Gelan visited a vaccination site in Korail, Dhaka, on 7 October to observe the programme, according to a statement reported the following day.
The assistance is intended to help the government expand immunisation coverage as measles cases continue to put pressure on health services.
Vaccination is a central tool for preventing measles and rubella, but campaigns must reach children who missed routine doses and communities with limited access to health services.
The 3.4 million figure refers to the number of children targeted. It should not be mistaken for the number already vaccinated, and actual coverage will need to be assessed as implementation proceeds.
