Five more dengue deaths reported as 1,935 patients enter hospital

Bangladesh’s health authorities reported five dengue deaths and 1,935 hospital admissions in the latest 24-hour period ending on 8 October. The year’s reported death toll has reached 294, with 94,151 hospitalised cases. The numbers represent a new daily update, rather than a revision of the previous day’s figures.

From 9 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Five more people died with dengue in Bangladesh in the 24 hours to the morning of 8 October, while 1,935 patients were admitted to hospital with the mosquito-borne disease, the Directorate General of Health Services reported.

The latest deaths brought the recorded 2026 toll to 294. Hospital admissions since the beginning of the year reached 94,151. Three of the new deaths were recorded in Dhaka South City Corporation and two in Khulna division.

September had recorded 148 deaths, the highest monthly figure of the year so far. Officials continue to publish daily changes in cases, deaths and recoveries, making comparisons with the previous day’s bulletin important.

Hospital admissions are not the same as all infections occurring in the community, and the headline figures depend on the scope of the official surveillance system. The latest update nevertheless underlines the continuing demand on hospitals and the importance of mosquito control and early medical attention.
