London’s main share indices rose on Monday as investors entered a week that includes the government’s Budget.
The FTSE 100 finished at 10,767.33, a gain of about 0.7%. The more domestically focused FTSE 250 rose 1.09% to 24,501.25.
Those closing figures describe the market’s position at the end of Monday’s session. They do not establish how shares will respond when Chancellor John Healey presents his tax and spending plans on Wednesday.
The broader rise did not extend to every company. London Stock Exchange Group shares fell 1.79% to £93.40, according to MarketWatch’s closing report.
That contrast illustrates the distinction between an index’s overall movement and the performance of its individual members. The Budget remains an upcoming event, with its detailed measures still to be announced.
