Jamaat-e-Islami has called for an investigation into alleged corruption and political favouritism in the appointment of fertiliser dealers, saying farmers are suffering from problems in distribution.

At a press briefing in Dhaka on 15 October, Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar accused the BNP-led government of favouring politically connected applicants and bypassing eligibility requirements.

He alleged that some dealerships had gone to inexperienced applicants or several members of the same family. These claims have not been independently established.

Porwar set out six demands, including an inquiry into alleged financial transactions and political interference, publication of selection criteria and licensing procedures, and legal action where misconduct is established.

He also sought regular disclosure of investigation progress and an explanation of differences between official statements on fertiliser availability and conditions reported in different parts of the country.
