Five dengue deaths reported as admissions remain high

Five people died from dengue and 1,920 were admitted to hospital in 24 hours, taking Bangladesh’s 2026 toll to 321 deaths and 105,316 admissions. September remains the deadliest month of the year so far.

From 15 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Five more people died from dengue and 1,920 were admitted to hospital in the latest 24-hour reporting period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

The deaths took the national total for 2026 to 321. Two occurred in Chattogram division, with one each reported in Dhaka South City Corporation, Mymensingh and Rajshahi.

Hospital admissions this year have reached 105,316. In the latest period, 1,905 patients were discharged, bringing the cumulative number of recoveries to 99,201.

September accounted for 148 deaths, the highest monthly total so far in 2026. The persistence of high admissions in October indicates that the transmission season remains severe even after the September peak.

Daily national totals are useful, but local action depends on more granular information about neighbourhood clusters, bed occupancy and the timing of deaths. City corporations and health authorities need coordinated mosquito control around known transmission zones while hospitals maintain triage and fluid-management capacity. Households should remove standing water and seek qualified care promptly for warning signs such as persistent vomiting, bleeding, severe abdominal pain or unusual weakness.
