Two suspected measles deaths added as outbreak reporting continues

Two children died with suspected measles in the latest reporting period. DGHS recorded 1,269 suspected and 152 confirmed cases. Since 15 March, the combined death count is 1,164, comprising 1,060 suspected and 104 confirmed deaths—not 1,164 laboratory-confirmed measles fatalities.

From 13 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Two children died with suspected measles in the latest 24-hour reporting period, the Directorate General of Health Services said on 12 October. No new confirmed-measles death was reported during that period.

Since 15 March, authorities have recorded 1,060 deaths associated with suspected measles and 104 deaths from confirmed measles. Their combined total is 1,164, but the two classifications should not be collapsed into a claim that every death was laboratory-confirmed.

The latest bulletin recorded 1,269 suspected cases and 152 confirmed cases. Cumulative suspected cases reached 206,297, while the confirmed total stood at 22,573.

DGHS also reported 183,226 hospital admissions involving suspected measles since 15 March and 175,655 discharges over that period.

The update concerns reported illness and outcomes within the surveillance system. The figures retain separate suspected and confirmed categories, reflecting the distinction between clinical suspicion and confirmation rather than interchangeable descriptions of the same evidence.
