Eight more dengue deaths as 1,860 enter hospital

Bangladesh recorded eight dengue deaths and 1,860 new hospital admissions in the latest 24-hour reporting period. The 2026 death toll reached 289, with more than 92,000 hospitalised since January.

From 8 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Eight more dengue patients died and 1,860 people were admitted to hospital in the 24 hours to 8:00am on 7 October, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

The latest figures raised Bangladesh’s reported dengue death toll for 2026 to 289 and total hospital admissions to 92,216.

Two deaths each were reported in Dhaka South City Corporation, Khulna and Rajshahi divisions, while Barishal and Sylhet recorded one each. More than 5,700 dengue patients were receiving treatment in hospitals at the time of the update.

The figures represent patients recorded through the official hospital-surveillance system and should not be read as a count of every dengue infection in the country.

Bangladesh is experiencing a severe dengue season, putting sustained pressure on hospitals and increasing demand for beds, diagnostic services, saline and clinical monitoring.

Health authorities continue to stress early assessment and careful monitoring because severe dengue can develop as fever subsides. Controlling the outbreak also depends on mosquito-source reduction and local vector-control measures, not treatment alone.
