Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Khulna and Bagerhat on 22 October to inspect Mongla Port, a proposed economic zone and parts of the Sundarbans. The itinerary, published on 21 October, places the southwest’s transport and industrial development on the day’s agenda.

He is due to view Hiron Point and nearby forest areas from the air, travel through Dacope to BNS Mongla, and meet officials at the naval base. The programme also includes port jetties and the site proposed by the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority before his return to Dhaka.

Local business representatives want the visit to address operating constraints. Mongla C&F Association President Mosharraf Hossain called for dependable gas and electricity for the export processing zone and surrounding industries, sustained channel dredging, and better use of rail and road connections.

Shipping agents also raised concerns about navigability and delays in import and export operations. These are requests from port users, rather than measures already approved during the visit.

State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam said the government would pursue investment and transport improvements around Mongla. The immediate programme remains an inspection and meetings; any funding decisions, project approvals or implementation deadlines will depend on subsequent announcements.
