From 18 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Cross-border trade through Akhaura land port in Brahmanbaria was suspended from Saturday for the Durga Puja break, with a second closure planned later in October for Lakshmi Puja.

The announced schedule covers 17–21 October and 25–26 October, making seven closure days in two separate periods. Import and export activity is scheduled to resume on 22–24 October between the breaks and return to its regular schedule on 27 October.

The Indo-Bangla Exporter-Importer Communication Centre in Agartala notified Indian customs officials of the arrangements in a letter dated 15 October. Copies went to port authorities, trading associations and other offices on both sides of the border.

Nesar Uddin Bhuiyan, president of the Akhaura C&F Agents Association, said traders had been informed. He also said fish exports had been suspended on Friday.

The announcement concerns the movement of goods. It does not set out the arrangements for passenger immigration, which is a separate border service. The two closure periods should not be treated as one uninterrupted seven-day shutdown.
