Consumer-rights inspectors found an estimated 160–170 tonnes of cardamom stored in a warehouse at Khatunganj, Chattogram, during a market inspection, officials said in reports on 16 October.

The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection said some traders appeared to be holding supplies back from the market. It fined Hossain Corporation Tk50,000 over alleged hoarding intended to create scarcity and push up prices.

The inspection was carried out on 15 October. The authority’s findings raise questions about supply and market conduct, but the allegations against businesses should not be treated as court findings.
