Parliament’s fourth session to begin on 9 November

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has summoned the fourth session of Bangladesh’s 13th parliament for 9 November. It follows a 60-day recess after a short third session and will meet at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

From 15 October 2026 — Daily Brief

The fourth session of Bangladesh’s 13th parliament will begin at 3:30pm on November 9, according to a notification from the Parliament Secretariat.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir summoned the sitting under Article 72(1) of the constitution. The chamber will reconvene after a 60-day recess; the third session ended on September 10 after nine sittings.

The current parliament was formed following the February 12 general election. Its first session began in March and passed a large number of measures, including legislation replacing ordinances issued during the interim period. The second, budget session approved the government’s Tk938,000 crore spending plan for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The notice establishes the opening date but does not yet set out a full legislative programme. That agenda will determine whether the session is primarily procedural or becomes a substantive forum for constitutional reform, economic management and scrutiny of ministers.

With several reform debates now moving through parliamentary committees, the government will face pressure to publish bills early enough for examination. The usefulness of the sitting will also depend on committee evidence, opposition participation and whether members receive enough time to debate measures beyond the formal passage stage.
