Dhaka shares edge higher after two sessions of losses

The DSEX gained about four points to close near 5,409 on 13 October, ending two losing sessions. Trading remained subdued and the recovery was uneven: the blue-chip and Shariah indices declined. The small benchmark rise offers a mixed picture of the day’s market.

From 14 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Dhaka’s benchmark share index recovered slightly on 13 October after two consecutive sessions of losses, although other leading indices finished lower.

The DSEX gained about four points to close near 5,409. Exchange data put the increase at 0.07%, a modest recovery following the previous day’s much larger fall.

The DS30 blue-chip index declined to about 2,089, while the Shariah index slipped to roughly 1,070. The contrasting movements show that the benchmark’s improvement was not shared evenly across major groups of securities.

Market accounts described selective purchases of recently weakened shares alongside continuing selling pressure. Trading activity remained subdued, and turnover stayed below the previous session.

Textiles, general insurance and banking were among the sectors drawing the most trading activity. Mutual funds and some insurance shares recorded gains, while telecommunications and fuel-and-power shares came under pressure.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange also closed lower, with both its selected and all-share indices declining.

The day’s outcome was a small positive close for Dhaka’s broad index within a mixed market, rather than a strong or uniform rebound across the exchanges.
