Scheduled banks in Bangladesh will generally remain closed from 20 to 24 October as three Durga Puja holidays are followed by the regular Friday–Saturday weekend.
Bangladesh Bank said all scheduled banks would open on Saturday, 17 October, under their regular schedules. The arrangement gives customers an additional working day before the extended closure.
The festival holidays fall on 20, 21 and 22 October; the weekend follows on 23 and 24 October. Treating the closure as only three days would overlook those adjoining weekly holidays.
There are exceptions for branches and sub-branches serving seaports, land ports, airports and Customs areas. Banks were instructed to coordinate with local administrations and the relevant authorities to maintain essential services, especially for imports and exports.
The announcement therefore does not mean every trade-related banking facility will shut throughout the five-day period. Individual port-service arrangements depend on the instructions and coordination applicable to those branches.
