Bangladesh raises cash dollar limit at money changers to $3,000
Bangladesh Bank has raised the amount of US dollar cash that licensed money changers may sell to an outbound Bangladeshi traveller in one transaction from $2,000 to $3,000. The change operates within existing annual travel entitlements rather than increasing the overall allowance.

Bangladesh Bank has raised the amount of US dollar cash licensed money changers can sell to an outgoing Bangladeshi traveller at one time, from $2,000 to $3,000.
The central bank issued the change on 8 October through its foreign exchange policy department. The higher limit applies to US dollar notes and coins purchased against a traveller’s annual private travel entitlement.
The new ceiling is a transaction limit, not an increase in the annual travel allowance. Customers remain subject to the relevant overall entitlement and documentation requirements. Any remaining permitted amount can be supplied in other usable foreign currencies, depending on availability and the traveller’s unused allowance.
The previous $2,000 ceiling had applied since November 2024. Raising it gives travellers greater flexibility to obtain cash for expenses overseas, particularly where electronic payments may be less convenient.
Licensed money changers and authorised foreign exchange dealers have been instructed to inform customers of the revised arrangements.
For outbound passengers, the practical effect is a higher permitted dollar-cash purchase per visit to an authorised money changer. It does not remove existing foreign exchange controls or guarantee that a particular outlet will have the requested notes in stock.
