Bangladesh GDP growth rebounds to 4.6% in final FY26 quarter

Bangladesh’s economy expanded 4.60% year on year in the April-June quarter of FY2025-26, up from 2.05% a year earlier. Industry and services drove the rebound, while full-year growth was estimated at 3.68%.

From 8 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Bangladesh’s economy grew 4.60% year on year in the final quarter of fiscal year 2025-26, more than twice the 2.05% expansion recorded in the same quarter a year earlier, provisional government data show.

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics said the April-June improvement was led by stronger industrial activity and a recovery in services. At current prices, gross domestic product in the quarter was estimated at about Tk 16.12 trillion, compared with Tk 14.39 trillion a year earlier.

Quarterly growth had been uneven through the year, with the first three quarters estimated at 4.96%, 3.03% and 2.22% respectively. Full-year growth was estimated at 3.68%.

The stronger final quarter provides evidence of a late improvement in activity, but it does not erase the broader slowdown that has affected investment, energy-intensive industry and household demand.

For businesses, the important question is whether the industrial rebound can be sustained as borrowing costs, energy constraints and financial-sector weaknesses continue to weigh on investment. The provisional figures may also be revised as more complete data become available.
