Bangladesh reported nine more dengue deaths and 1,902 hospital admissions in the 24 hours to the morning of 5 October, taking this year’s recorded death toll to 271.
The Directorate General of Health Services said cumulative hospital admissions had reached 88,360. The latest figures cover the period beginning at 8am on 4 October.
Three of the reported deaths were in Dhaka North City Corporation, two in Barishal division, and one each in Chattogram, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
Hospitals in Dhaka division outside the two city corporations recorded 401 new admissions. Dhaka North recorded 206 and Dhaka South 223. Khulna division reported 306 admissions and Chattogram 272, showing the burden extended beyond the capital.
The bulletin also recorded 1,988 patients discharged after treatment during the reporting period. A total of 82,335 patients had left hospital since the start of the year.
September accounted for 43,774 admissions and 148 deaths in the official series. The new bulletin raises the annual death toll from the 262 reported a day earlier.
The surveillance figures describe reported hospital admissions and deaths. They do not measure every dengue infection in the community, and discharges on a particular day can include patients admitted earlier.
