The National Board of Revenue says investigators have uncovered eight cases of alleged customs evasion involving misdeclared imports, with an estimated revenue loss of Tk7.03 crore.
The findings were announced on Saturday after inspections by the Central Intelligence Cell and Chattogram Customs House. According to the revenue board, import documents described lower-duty products while containers held higher-duty or prohibited goods.
Declared items included agricultural sprayers, toothpicks, heat-transfer paper and industrial components. Inspectors allegedly found cosmetics, creams, vehicle parts, banners, nuts, bolts and bearings that did not match those declarations.
In one case, a consignment declared as nearly 12 tonnes of agricultural spraying equipment contained products including lights, cosmetics and sunglasses. In another, inspectors found only a small portion of the declared toothpicks, alongside cosmetics and other goods.
The board said legal action was being prepared against the importers and their clearing and forwarding agents. It also described a separate alleged attempt to remove a container using a replaced seal and falsified documents.
The Tk7.03 crore is the investigating authority’s estimate of evaded duties. The allegations have not been established by a court verdict in the material reviewed.
