Proposal for 24,677 additional police posts remains under consideration

From 18 October 2026 — Daily Brief

A proposal to create 24,677 additional posts in Bangladesh Police is being processed by the government, according to an official account published on Saturday.

The proposed expansion is moving through the home, public administration and finance authorities. It is intended to add personnel under the revenue budget and address staffing requirements across the force.

The posts have not all been approved or filled. The announcement therefore does not represent 24,677 officers already recruited or deployed, and it did not establish a final timetable for the full expansion.

The official account also described separate recruitment and organisational proposals at different stages. Those figures cannot simply be added together and treated as completed appointments. The central announcement remains a staffing proposal awaiting the necessary approvals and subsequent recruitment.
