TCB says nearly eight million beneficiaries verified for subsidised goods
Bangladesh's Trading Corporation says it has verified around 7.99 million beneficiaries for its subsidised essentials programme, with more than 7.3 million smart family cards activated. Officials say electronic checks have also removed millions of fake or ineligible applications. Verified beneficiaries, active cards and monthly recipients are different measures.

The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) says it has verified and enrolled nearly eight million beneficiaries in its digital database for the subsidised essentials programme.
The agency reported 7.99 million verified beneficiaries and more than 7.3 million activated Smart Family Cards at a trade event held on 15 October. Published reports give slightly different precise activation figures, so the figure here is rounded rather than presenting an unresolved exact total.
TCB says its electronic know-your-customer checks and national identity database comparisons have removed millions of fake or ineligible applications. It expects digital management of beneficiary lists, payments and stock to reduce waste and improve transparency in food support.
The scheme enables lower-income families to purchase certain everyday goods at subsidised prices. TCB also outlined plans to improve procurement, warehouse tracking and digital transactions.
Verified beneficiary entries, activated cards and families actually purchasing goods in a particular month are not the same measure. The announcement is an update to the corporation’s digital enrolment system, not proof that every verified family has already collected subsidised products.
