Ukrainian drone attacks hit oil facilities, warehouses and technology infrastructure around Russia’s St Petersburg on Sunday, 18 October. Local authorities reported one death and 15 injuries across the city and the surrounding Leningrad region.
Governor Alexander Beglov said fires broke out at the St Petersburg oil terminal, an oil depot and industrial warehouses. Flights were restricted at Pulkovo airport, while residential buildings were also damaged.
Online retailer Ozon said its logistics centre was burning. Technology company VK reported a drone strike on a data centre in the Leningrad region but said its services remained available. Ukrainian drone manufacturer Fire Point also said Ukraine’s military had struck a VK facility.
Russia’s defence ministry claimed that its forces intercepted 1,015 Ukrainian drones across Russian regions overnight. The Leningrad governor said a damaged substation left around 20,000 people in Yanino without power.
The Kremlin said the attacks would not change Russia’s war objectives. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of continuing attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure despite an energy ceasefire announced by the United States.
Ukrainian officials said Russian attacks hit substations in four regions, leaving tens of thousands of households without power. Emergency crews in St Petersburg were working to extinguish the fires.
