Saudi Arabia outlines plan to expand pipeline oil-export capacity

Saudi Arabia is considering pipeline changes that could eventually lift crude-export capacity to around 10 million barrels a day. A temporary gas-pipeline conversion could add 1.2 million barrels a day sooner. The figures describe proposed capacity, not an increase already achieved in exports.

From 13 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Saudi Arabia is considering an expansion of pipeline crude-export capacity to around 10 million barrels a day, Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said on 12 October.

A temporary conversion of a domestic gas pipeline could add up to 1.2 million barrels a day within seven to eight weeks, he told the World Petroleum Congress in Riyadh.

The minister said Saudi Aramco could use that pipeline for oil transport until May, after which it would need cleaning and a return to gas service before summer.

Further investment in pumping stations on the East–West network and related infrastructure could bring total additional capacity to as much as 3 million barrels a day. The wider target would take around two to three years.

The proposals concern transport capacity and flexibility. They do not mean Saudi production or exports have already increased by those amounts, and the near-term conversion would be temporary rather than a permanent addition.
