Greece returns remains attributed to Tsar Samuel to Bulgaria

Remains believed to be those of medieval ruler Tsar Samuel were returned from Greece to Bulgaria on 3 October 2026, AFP reported.
The agreement also provides for Greece to receive 48 religious objects taken from northern Greek churches and monasteries during the First World War. The identification of the remains as Samuel’s rests on archaeological clues and is not conclusive.
