China opens probe into EU chemical imports before trade talks

China opened an anti-dumping investigation into European Union supplies of p-nitrotoluene on 3 October 2026, according to AFP. The chemical is used to make dyes, medicines and pesticides.
The inquiry follows a complaint from Chinese producers and is expected to take twelve months, with a possible six-month extension. It comes ahead of scheduled talks between Chinese and EU trade officials. Opening an investigation does not establish that dumping occurred.
