BRAC Bank announced plans on 25 October to issue a Tk1,000 crore green bond, directing longer-term funding towards eligible environmental projects.

At a Dhaka press briefing, the bank said the proceeds would finance renewable energy, green buildings and industrial energy-efficiency initiatives.

The three-year bond will be senior, unsecured, non-convertible, fully redeemable and zero-coupon. Each bond will have a face value of Tk10 lakh. Corporate institutions and individual investors are among the intended subscribers, with eligible provident and gratuity funds also able to participate subject to the relevant requirements.

The bank said its framework aligns with Bangladesh Bank’s green bond financing policy and international Green Bond Principles, and has received a second-party opinion from S&P Global Ratings.

The announcement sets out the proposed instrument and use of proceeds. It does not establish that the full amount has already been raised or spent on projects.
