Bangladesh Bank’s website returned online at 8am on 25 October after a precautionary shutdown that began on Thursday amid a global cybersecurity alert.

Spokesperson Arief Hossain Khan confirmed the restoration. He said the site had been checked for possible vulnerabilities and that it had been taken offline because of concerns about attacks.

The interruption affected access to the central bank’s website. The bank said its connections with commercial banks continued to operate, while internet and mobile banking transactions carried on during the period.

The precaution followed warnings about serious vulnerabilities in PHP, software widely used to operate websites. Organisations in several countries had taken emergency measures.

The restoration is the new development. The available statements describe preventive action and security checks; they do not establish that Bangladesh Bank suffered a successful intrusion during this incident.
