From 17 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Seven people, including five government employees, have been arrested over an alleged question-paper leak in a Department of Youth Development recruitment examination, Bangladesh’s Special Response Battalion (SRB) said on Friday, 16 October.

The arrests followed operations in Dhaka and surrounding areas over three days. SRB officers said those detained included employees of the National Board of Revenue, the Ministry of Defence and the Department of Environment, alongside two job applicants.

The examination was originally scheduled for 10 October for 242 assistant youth development officer posts. It was postponed shortly before its scheduled start after authorities identified the leak. Around 319,000 people had applied.

Investigators said seized phones contained messages showing how photographs of the questions and suggested answers circulated. They are seeking to establish who first obtained the question paper. SRB alleged that some candidates were being charged Tk8 lakh to Tk10 lakh for access.

The allegations remain under investigation. Arrest does not establish guilt, and the exact origin of the leaked questions has not been confirmed.
