Motorcyclists told to fit front number plates by 15 November

Bangladesh's road transport authority has ordered motorcycle owners to install a manually made front number plate by 15 November, alongside the existing rear digital plate. Front plates must show black Bengali registration characters on white metal and meet prescribed sizes. Failure to comply could result in legal action.

From 17 October 2026 — Daily Brief

Bangladesh’s road transport authority has ordered motorcycle owners to display a registration plate at the front of their vehicles by 15 November 2026, warning that non-compliance could lead to legal action.

The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) announced the new requirement on Friday, 16 October. It comes on top of the approved radio-frequency identification (RFID) number plate already required at the rear; it does not replace that plate.

Owners must arrange a manually made front plate displaying the registered number in black Bengali letters and numerals on a white background. BRTA says it should be made of stainless steel or aluminium, without decorative writing or designs.

For scooters, the prescribed plate measures 200 by 100 millimetres. Other motorcycles require a 285-by-50-millimetre plate. Letters and numerals must be at least 20 millimetres high in either format.

The authority said the additional plate would improve traffic management and surveillance. Reports of its notice do not specify a fixed penalty amount or a government-run supplier for the new front plates. Motorcycle owners will need to follow the detailed design requirements before the deadline.
