Thirty-two wells add about 148mmcfd to Bangladesh gas supply
Petrobangla says work on 32 gas wells over seven months has added roughly 148 million cubic feet a day to the national grid. Pipeline constraints are delaying use of some further potential output. Domestic production remains well below total demand, leaving the country dependent on imported LNG.

Work on 32 gas wells over the past seven months has added approximately 148 million cubic feet of gas per day to Bangladesh’s national grid, according to Petrobangla figures reported on 8 October.
The wells were developed across fields operated by Sylhet Gas Fields, BAPEX and Bangladesh Gas Fields Company. Their combined output has slightly exceeded the initially projected figure.
Petrobangla says pipeline limitations are preventing another portion of potential production from reaching consumers. Additional drilling is under way, and the government has set longer-term targets for further wells.
Bangladesh’s gas demand remains substantially higher than supply. Imports of liquefied natural gas help fill part of the gap but expose the economy to foreign-exchange costs and global energy prices.
The results show the value of domestic exploration, while also demonstrating that wells alone are insufficient: gathering pipelines, processing and transmission infrastructure must keep pace.
