Bangladesh’s headline inflation rose to 8.34% in September, reversing two months of gradual easing as food prices increased, according to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics data released on 7 October.
The overall rate was up from 8.26% in August. Food inflation rose to 7.22% from 7.02%, while non-food inflation edged down to 9.30% from 9.32%.
Price pressure was slightly stronger in rural areas, where inflation reached 8.38%, compared with 8.26% in urban areas. The latest reading was nevertheless marginally below the 8.36% recorded in September 2025.
The increase matters because inflation remains high enough to continue squeezing household purchasing power even as the economy shows signs of improvement in some sectors. Higher fuel costs during September also added pressure to transport and distribution expenses.
The data suggest Bangladesh’s disinflation process remains fragile. A sustained fall in inflation will depend not only on monetary policy but also on food supply, energy costs, exchange-rate stability and the efficiency of domestic distribution networks.
