Beximco Group is seeking approval for a leasing model that could restart one of its closed garment factories with $23 million from British and Chinese investors.
Charter HCP Ltd of the UK and China’s Besting Ltd plan to invest in Prefix Fashions Ltd at Beximco Industrial Park in Kashimpur, Gazipur. Revival Global is acting as asset manager for the proposed arrangement.
The proposal would run for five years and initially employ about 2,500 workers if approved. The factory would mainly produce export-oriented jackets, with operations potentially restarting in April next year.
Loan repayments would be made from export proceeds through banks holding liens over the assets, according to officials involved in the plan. Beximco is expected to discuss the structure with Invest Bangladesh.
The proposal is significant because Beximco’s industrial operations have been constrained by heavy debt and factory closures. Bringing outside investors into a specific operating unit could offer a route to revive production without immediately reopening the wider group.
The investment is not yet a completed transaction. Government approval and implementation of the leasing structure remain necessary before production can resume.
