Bangladesh and UK discuss wider trade, skills and migration ties
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education, skills and migration. The meeting signals the areas both sides want to develop. Its published account announced no new visa entitlement, trade agreement or funding commitment.

Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have discussed broadening their relationship across trade, investment, education and migration, following a meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and British High Commissioner Sarah Cooke.
The courtesy call took place at the prime minister’s office in the Secretariat on 4 October. The account released by the prime minister’s press wing described an interest in strengthening and diversifying longstanding bilateral ties.
Skills development, human resources and economic cooperation were among the areas discussed. The meeting also covered continued British support for Bangladesh’s economic development and opportunities to expand trade and investment.
For Bangladesh’s diaspora and businesses with links to Britain, these subjects indicate the breadth of the diplomatic agenda. They do not amount to an announcement of new migration rules or automatic opportunities for individual applicants.
The published account did not identify a signed trade agreement, a financial commitment or a timetable for implementing new programmes. It should therefore be read as a statement of priorities and continuing engagement.
Any subsequent agreement would need to be assessed on its own terms, including who would qualify, what funding was committed and when it would take effect.
